There’s a fox in my friend’s garden as big as can be,
You need to see the great big holes even the cat did flee,
Joan went to get the washing that’s hanging on the line,
And as she opened up the door a shout came then a whine.
What’s wrong I said to her why the fox is just outside,
She didn’t expect it to appear she ran upstairs to go and hide,
She called it’s in the yard next door come up and have a look,
I couldn’t see for it was dark I never even saw a rook.
As she turned to look at me the tears rolled down her face,
She held me as tight could be so had to calm her down a pace,
The cat she had to keep it in in case the fox got hungry,
The problem was to catch the thing before Joan got too jumpy.
A man came with a great big trap and left it overnight,
Then in the morning it was caught the fox put up a fight,
The man came back with a smaller cage put a wire round the fox’s neck,
The fox he went into a rage but they kept him well in check.
They’ve taken him some thirty miles and then they will let him go,
And hope there isn’t another one before early morning glows,
The holes must then be all filled in the garden put to rights,
Then Joan can settle down again and have back some peaceful nights.
