John 3: 16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

The cockney kid from Bethnal Green,
Aint never seen the Queen,
All dressed up in all fine things,
With jewellery and diamond rings.

He was always drunk at night,
Would sometimes land up in a fight,
The kid would hide under the table,
And get out whenever able.

It wasn’t much of a life for the kid,
Of this sin he must be rid,
He didn’t want to be like his dad,
He wanted to be proud and grand.
In Vicky Park he felt refreshed,
He saw fathers neat and all well dressed,
Children round him all were playing,
He also two lovers swaying.

By now the tears began to flow,
They dripped down to the earth below,
In desperation he cried out oh God who is so good and kind,
Give me a peaceful sort of mind.

The Lord had heard that simple prayer,
And answered straight away,
A light came shining through the sky,
It seemed like Jesus sat close by.

The child felt warm within God’s love,                                                                                                     A glow was in his heart,
And sitting there with tears a flood,
He saw his Jesus on a cross of wood.

His life felt changed within,
And as he sat there with a grin,
No more did he want to see the gutter,
He was walking with the King of Kings.
